Nearly died on AA flight 2238 and still didnt get a refund
I was on flight 2238 Dallas TX to Charlotte NC. Left engine went out mid flight and engines began spewing hydraulic fuel. Supposedly one engine caught on fire. We emergency landed in Birmingham Alabama and they didnt offer any additional flights. I was stuck in Birmingham and had to buy another $1k ticket to get back to Charlotte. I contacted AA and they refused to give a refund or voucher because the flight was "completed". Completed because I purchased another ticket. American Airlines is horrible. I figured that since they nearly killed us and left us in a random state they would refund. Nope not a chance. Don't ever fly AA the planes and employees are horrible! The date of the flight was August 24th, 2012. I'm lucky to be alive.

AA are under an obligation to get you to CLT. Did you pre-empt their arrangements and instead make alternative arrangements?
Did you ask them to re-book you or did you just book yourself. AA would struggle to argue that a flight from Dallas to Charlotte, which ends at Birmingham, AL following an emergency landing was "completed". |
AA sent a replacement aircraft to Birmingham which departed 9:25 AM the next day. They should have offered options to re-book you on their next flights however there were only two flights left that day, both back to DFW so you probably would not have made it to CLT that night anyway. That being the case they should have offered to rebook you on a different airline under what is commonly called "Rule 240" however as you paid $1,000 for your ticket (normal fare, even same-day purchase, is around $152-$282) it can be assumed that the other airlines with flights to Charlotte were most likely over-sold which would preclude AA from booking you on them under "Rule 240." My best advice is to submit the receipt for the ticket you purchased to AA for reimbursement or consider pursuing in small claims court.

Worst airline in Disguise

they made me file a report i was not compensated for the days i lost my bags and the trips i took to airport becuase no ne picked up the phone and time effort, but they denied my claim and also said it was my fault. this is a their way of not dealign with their own problems. this is what they tell the agents to say to every problem. obviosly someone in american airlines is an alcholic who cant cope. its about time that we joined together and file a class actoin multimillion dollar law suit against this ariline for losses and their inability to take hold. |
