AeroPlan Stealing Miles Using Nonsense Expiry Explanation

My mother, who turned 82 this September, received a number of written notices from AeroPlan concerning her balance of air miles. The latest was dated September 2011 stating that her miles (the bulk of them) would expire in December 2013.

Well, apparently the plan removed the miles ahead of schedule in January 2012 because she didn't (according to their gibberish) keep the account active during the last 12 months.

It seems to me that if they state in September 2011 that the miles are good until December 2013, they should still be there.

This gibberish they use with a part A and a part B redemption ruling is nonsense.

Waiting for someone from HO to call me next week.

This is just plain wrong in my view.

I think a class action law suit is the least that could be brought to AeroPlan's front door.

Did you also read the part stating that prior if no ticket was booked or use of the Aeroplan Air Canada credit card during that time frame, they would move to void the miles.
