If you hate hidden airline fees please sign our petition

More and more companies are adding fees for options that are not truly optional making it difficult for consumers to find out the true price of a product or service until after they have committed or invested a lot of time in the purchase.

Airlines now charge for even a single checked bag and some are even charging for carry ons. Since very few people travel empty handed baggage is not an option. Its like charging extra for a pilot or wings.

Mobile phone companies also have added fees that apply to virtually every customer and are not included in the advertised rates. A monthly rate of $29 for a cell phone plan isnt really $29 we all pay $40 after fees.

Hidden fees undermine the free market economy because they make it difficult for consumers to compare prices offered by competing companies.

In an effort to bring this issue u for discussion we have started a petition on the "We the People" site. If we get 150 signatures it goes into the public forum and once it meets the minimum requirement for signatures there the white house has to respond. We need all the help we can get so if this stuff pisses you off please take a moment to sign the petition at the link below.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

The lack of transparency in pricing is endemic, and is solely designed to inhibit competitive price comparison. Imagine Kellogg's offered a box of cornflakes for $1 and then when you get to the checkout adding another $1 for the box. This is a problem in mobile phones, financial services, airline services, cable and tv service providers to name a few. The lack of effective regulatory action and consumer protection is shocking. I would sign if I could, but as a pesky foreigner, I don't think I can.

yes.....more government, less control of our own businesses. That will work great. The US government is so far in debt it should be regulating no one, ever.

All it requires is to make the same laws which provide rotection for consumer goods to apply to services...doesn't require huge amounts of red tape...

Government involvement has its place and creating a level playing field is one of those functions that only government can play.

Look at it this way. If company A decides to hide some of the costs in these invisible fees they can offer a lower apparent price. If that goes uncontested companies B, C and D will almost be forced to do the same thing or lose business. Pretty soon a huge chunk of your bill is hidden making it impossible to know what you are being charged.

What if you went to your physician and after the office visit your doctor applied a waiting room fee, a staff greeting fee, a lighting fee, bathroom fee, breathable air fee etc, etc? You get the idea. No one would put up with that. Why do we put up with this?

This only goes on because no one has stood up and objected and if we continue to remain silent this underground economy will continue to pick our pockets with this unethical behavior. Its clearly wrong, we need to make it illegal so that the playing field will be level for all companies and consumers will have the power to actually compare offers for services and products.
