Singapore-based Scoot Airlines is charging SGD$18 (US$14) to those wishing to sit in the ‘ScootinSilence’ area, which has 41 seats in rows 21 to 25.

No one under the age of 12 can sit in that section, which also has the advantage of an extra four inches of legroom than other economy seats.

Scoot chief executive Campbell Wilson says the airline combines fun, good value and empowers passengers to choose the no-frills options they value most.

"No offence to our young guests or those travelling with them - you still have the rest of the aircraft," he says.

Another Asian budget carrier Air Asia introduced a children-free zone in February for passengers who don't want to be disturbed by other people's kids.

It reserves its first seven rows in economy for passengers aged 12 and over.

Travellers with uncontrollable children were named first equal with inconsiderate seat recliners in a list of the 10 worst plane passenger types released by AirlineRatings.com last month.
Last year a British poll has found a third of travellers would be willing to pay a higher airfare if it meant they could fly on a child-free plane.
But sitting in a child-free zone does not guarantee you a peaceful flight.

A woman who screamed profanites and jumped over seats caused a Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Shanghai to divert to Alaska on Sunday.
