Standby/Stand not

Flying from Manchester UK to Buffalo NY via Dulles. The Dulles-Buffalo flight was canceled and I was put on one four days later. Fortunately being a very frequent flyer the United Lounge staff were able to book me standby from Dulles to Rochester (close to Buffalo). The stand by flight was 4770 which stops in Newark. Unfortunately myself and several people who were also standby were denied boarding of the continuing flight. Three of the four got a hotel voucher, I did not. The initial delay was presumably weather related but the denied boarding was not. Does anyone know the rules on flights which have a single number but make intermediate stops. I give United enough business that a hotel voucher would have been nice and I think new EU rules suggest so also?

I should add that my general experience with United has been quite good.

The last portion of your flight is domestic in the USA. UAL would not be required to provide a hotel for weather conditions, but they can see if a near by hotel as a distressed rate for the inconvenience, but you would be paying the bill based on the distressed rate.

True, but as the standby was confirmed and then denied then that becomes an issue that is not weather related? Also the EU rules cover the trip to the final destination, not just the international component. Even for weather related delays Article 9 of EC 261/2004 is pretty clear on a hotel requirement for an overnight delay as is Article 14 on advising the passenger.
