Rorted by Malaysia Airlines

I was scheduled to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney on 7 April. I was flying back to Australia to have surgery. The hospital contacted me on 4 April to advise that the operation was postponed because they had a cancer patient come in who needed surgery more urgently than me. I called Malaysia Airlines on 5 April and then went into the ticket office in KL on 6 April to discuss the situation. They said that if I emailed in a letter from the hospital I would get a travel voucher for the same value of the flight. I obtained a letter from the hospital verifying the cancelled operation and emailed it to them.
I received a one line response that I was not eligible for a flight exchange voucher.
I emailed back asking why I had been told at their office in KL that I would get the airfare credit and again received a one line response declining an voucher.

When I went into the Malaysia Airlines office on Monday 7 April and explained I was flying home for surgery which was canceled, they said definitely I could get a credit voucher once I submitted the doctors letter.
If he had of said I would get no exchange voucher I would have caught the plane and gone to visit my family. I would not have just wasted an expensive plane ticket.
I have very little money I only wanted to use the flight when I really needed it, which is for my surgery.
I don't have the kind of money to buy several plane tickets per year.
This plane ticket cost me one month of my income.
I need the credit voucher to have my surgery when it's rescheduled. The Malaysia airline staff shouldn't have promised this to me if I wasn't going to receive it.

I cannot find any authority who I can go to for help in Malaysia.

Why don't you just take the letter into the office in KL and have them give you the voucher?

re:

The staff who I spoke to said it had to be emailed to them.
