Harassment for tips. La Guardia #4882
I had my first experience this past week with AA. All was fine till we left New York City via LaGuardia on Monday June 23rd. When we got out of our shuttle bus the persons working in the outside check in were waving us over stating you can now "check in more quickly outside". Since I do not have much flying experience I automatically went to the check in service one the curb. I wish I had his name, but, the first thing that came out of his mouth was a demand for a tip. All he did was give me my tickets and "threw" 4 pieces of luggage on a cart. He demanded 4 more times after that for a tip. He then started rubbing his shoulder complaining that he hurt it when moving my luggage. Yet, his shoulder was fine when he picked up the sign that showed the charges for checked luggage and placed it in front of my face and again demanded a tip. He did not get nor deserve a tip. I hope that all who read this will not tip rude airline employees. I tip is something that you work for, it is not deserved or is entitled and no one gets a tip from me when harassment is used.
I overcame a fear of flying about 2 years ago and wanted to start seeing more of the country and decided to take vacations about 2 times a year and fly somewhere interesting. After this, I don't think I will have anything else to do with flying. I feel sorry for those who have to fly as part of their job. I see on the news all the time about layoffs and price increases or new charges to increase your bottom line. If this many people are complaining don't you think this will affect your bottom line? With all the layoffs at airports why don't you get rid off the employees with the poorest perforances and most complaints? |
Max:
American does not condone soliciting of tips by any of its agents or contractors, even those who, basically, work for tips. I would suggest that you file a complaint directly with American. While it may not appear to have no effect, it will be noted in the employees work record (if American can determine who it was). I have been advised my American that if employees or contractors receive additional complaints of this nature, they will be terminated. |
Sounds like you fell victim to the skycap, not an airline employee. Airline employees don't and should never ask for tips. But the skycaps don't work for any particular airline, just the airport. And usually curb check in is great because no lines. Yea you have to pay a bit extra, but its usually worth it, if its busy.
