Inappropriate touching between employees
Here I am, sitting in the Denver international airport, waiting for my flight back to Chicago. As I type this, two Southwest employees are putting on a show for the people in the waiting area. An older, male employee is standing behind a younger, female employee, twirling her hair between his fingers and rubbing her shoulders and massaging her back (both upper and lower). I understand this isnt extreme behavior, but it looks pretty creepy. I also understand that southwest likes to be casual, such as telling stupid jokes or not having seat numbers (now that we have position numbers, why not just give us a seat assignment!) but this sort of behavior between employees is not tolerated at my workplace, so it shouldnt be here either.

Lighten up
The world is becoming a sterile and boring place because of people with attitudes like yours. Touch is part of normal human interaction and people who are so fearful that they are actually offended by people touching each other in front of them need therapy. It was only inappropriate if the people involved objected (which they clearly didn't) or if there was a sexual or other element to the behaviour which it clearly wasn't as you would have mentioned it. This is not a minor problem.... in England and in the US the climate created by people like you is such that many teachers and other professionals are fearful to even comfort young children lest some moron accuse them of being "inappropriate". It is a sad indictment of our times and very damaging.

I'm going to have to agree with the first post to some degree. No, it's not over the top, but it's not really professional either.
On the subject of no seat assignment, it really does save a bit of headache, and in the end, is it really that big of a deal to just go on and pick what you want? If you were the last to check in on any other airline, you wouldn't get a great seat either. |
massage on the job
The massaging and hair twirling were absolutely out of line. Iffy for the break-room, but totally uncouth for on job, in public. Low class and not appropriate for workplaces. If that view is sterile then I'm germfree. Save it for home.
