How can I get back my baggage
January 30th 2010 9:22pm
I(Osamu Fukuzaki) and my wife flew from JFK to Montreal on January 29th. A baggage person mistakenly reload my baggage on the plane that returned to JFK on that day. A person at baggage service counter at Montreal airport promised us that they load it on the first flight(JFK to Montreal;arrival time 9:20am January 30th) and deliver it to our hotel in Montreal. But we have not gotten my baggage and any contact from them so far. I already sent 2 e-mails about this issue to their customer relation department. But there is no reply other than auto reply mail. Their locator system on their web site still shows "unknown" about my baggage. How can I get back my baggage. Is this their usual treatment to their customers? |
On a journey between the US and Canada the Montreal Convention applies. This provides for compensation of up to $1,500 per bag for delayed or lost baggage. You are entitled to purchase essentials while your bag is delayed. You don't need the airline's pre-approval for this. If your bag does not turn up after 21 days, it is considered "lost" and not "delayed". You make a claim in writing against the airline to its Customer Relations department at DFW airport. You can get the address on the AA website. They encourage communications by email.
You must list items that were in the bag and their value. Also while your bag was delayed you can claim for the purchases for necessities. The limit of the airline's liability is $1,500 for each bag |
Thank you for providing specific information about the procedure for delayed/lost baggages. Finally, I got a phone from a person at YUL baggage service counter and I provided some specific information about contents inside my missing baggage according her question.
