Screaming baby

We recently flew roundtrip from L.A. to Paris. We love to travel, but flying is becoming so unpleasant that we're thinking twice about doing any long haul flights again.

Anyway, on our return, we were in economy, and there was a baby about 3 rows ahead of us. It screamed and cried for about 11 hours of the 12 hour flight. It was like being in a torture chamber. The hapless parents obviously couldn't stop it.

Two years ago, the last time we made this trip, the same thing happened for about the same amount of time.

Yes, I know we can use noise-cancelling head phones. But why can't the airlines charge full fare for small children? It seems only fair.

How will charging full fare for an infant stop a screaming baby? It is frustrating for the parent, baby and fellow passengers... but it is just part of life. There is nothing anyone can do about it. This is like complaining about the weather....
