CO 1745 10:30am flight cancelled rebooked for 7:00pm
 

Booked a flight to Cancun from Newark. Flight was for April 2011 booked June 2010 figuring best price and insure availability. Called tonight just to confirm itinerary and was informed flight was canceled and we were rebooked on a 7:00pm flight. They claimed they emailed me in December about this change, but that simply was a lie! This was our Easter vacation and I booked a very expensive hotel that I will now lose one day. When asked what they could do they said all other flights that day with morning departures non-stop were sold out. I bet they were at twice what I paid. When I asked for an explanation as to why I wasn't put on an earlier flight, they couldn't give me one. I have flown on Continental many times and because of this incident I will be reluctant to fly them again. To add insult to injury, they offered a flight with a stop that basically increased the travel time by over 4 hours and they expected me to say thanks, when they didn't even offer any type of compensation for the night I paid for in a hotel I can't get to!

Sounds like the flight attendant definitely abused her authority.
