Brussels Airlines

On Sept 18 we were cancelled on route from Brussels to Nairobi. We landed in Bujumbura, Burundi to pick up passenger and refuel. We were downed during landing and eventually the flight was cancelled (we were first told we hit a bird, but later a security guard said we were shot at). It was a zoo trying to get from the plane, through immigration and transport to a hotel. Little did we know that unrest was going on near our hotel where 41 people were massacred! Brussels Airline did not communicate any information to the stranded passengers, nor did they try to rebook us on the next flights out. Some of us went to the airport in the morning to try to get out. The representative from BA was clueless as to what needed to be done. We had to pay $314 each to fly Kenya Airways from Burundi to Nairobi.

I would avoid this airline for trips in Africa which must land at small airports.

Vacation in Burundi

We did not know we were shot at until the next day at the airport. The airline said they needed an engineer from Brussels to fix the plane (date of arrival unknown). I really felt sorry for the passengers who waited at the hotel for the airline to call them. I hope they stayed safe.

Since we spent 2 weeks in Kenya, we didn't see the news until yesterday and found out about the massacre near our hotel.
