denied avios

I have a British Airways Chase credit card that I have used since 2007. I changed my “location” on my executive club site from the United States to the United Arab Emirates to in 2009 to see what was being offered for flight information while I was there…I didn’t change the setting back, simple mistake on my part. I did not change my identity, I did not change my nationality, I did not change my mother’s maiden name…I did not stop paying my credit card payments, but BA and Chase have said that I am not eligible for the Avios I should have been collecting during that period of time 2009-2011…no big deal right? How about 170,000 Avios (my estimate). I think that’s a big deal to outright deny to me those Avios (by the way Avios is a stupid word). I used the card, paid the bill…simple. Give me the Avios.

I would appreciate hearing from some other frequent fliers on this sight…am I out of line asking for something I paid for?

additional thought

An additional thought since I started this discussion...this credit card is part of a loyalty program (you cannot possess it without being an executive club member). I am an Executive Club member and for most of the time in the Executive Club I have been a Gold Member. Given that, one would think, if a decision were to be made whether or not to resolve an issue with a member, British Airways would just use a bit of common sense to rectify the situation.

Resorting to what I see as something quite arbitrary (my billing address and my executive club "location" not matching...the reason given by a BA representative) in making the decision not to award my Avios, British Airways has proven themselves to be less then loyal to someone who has been loyal to their program.

If you were living in the US and this was a simple oversight, surely you just need to provide proof that you were resident in the US during that period. Copies of utilities and tax returns usually suffice.

The funny thing is I don't have to be in the States...I simply changed my location back to the States (on the web page) a couple of months ago, changed the BA address to match the Chase address and started recieving Avios again. It comes down to a simple click on the website. I admit I forgot to change my location as I wrote above but to deny me two years of Avios for something that silly is really not the way I think I should be treated as a loyalty club member.

Chase Avios Program BA does not let you to use your points when you want to!

I just signed up and was shocked. BA's marketing is clever but they have the discretion to do whatever they choose to allow you to use your points. I should have researched this more. I have almost 100,000 points and cant use them as I desire...for instance for a upgrade!
