Before-trip "check list"
Bookking your travel through a "brick and mortar" (NOT on-line) travel agency, which has been in business for several years, is one way of addressing the matter of needed travel documents when you don't have the time to do the research yourself. However, as other posters on this board have noted, an airline ticket purchased through a travel agent can lead to problems if you have a less than diligent agent and there are flight cancellations, schedule changes or other issues.
Legally, you are solely responsible for having the proper travel documents BEFORE you set-out for the airport. Mistakes by an airline or a travel agent do NOT relieve you of said legal responsibility.
If it is of any consolation, Singapore Air was probably fined, by Thai authorities, for allowing you to board the flight without proper entry documentation.
