I concur with the previous posters........it ultimately falls on the traveler to make sure he/she has the appropriate entry/exit documents to travel. And yes, the airline will receive a token fine but that is normally negotiated down to a pittance.
Agent 101 though says an agent of an airline always looks for the appropriate stamps in the passport. Void of any visas, I asked if the traveler was a resident of the country he/she was traveling to if the passport was not from that country and a visa was required. If so, I asked to see the resident card. The agent failed the passenger in this case.
Anne, out of curiousity, what nationality are you? You say you are traveling from SIN to Thailand. According to published information, Singapore nationals receive a 30 day visa upon entry. You should not have been denied if your passport is from Singapore.
