Frankly, I would not accept a "travel voucher" for reimbursement of out of pocket expenses. If the aircraft delay was mechanical, they are absolutely liable for your additional costs. These vouchers are hard to redeem, often expire and a pain in the neck. Next time, demand a cheque.. cash doesn't expire and they can't control what you do with it.

Airlines are like scammers, trying to find a "loophole" to deny you what you are entitled to..
