If your friend booked the flight, she would be the one to get the credit back since she paid Southwest for it. Your payment in this was to your friend, not Southwest, so they have nothing to do with that. And if the credits have been used, then there is nothing left for Southwest to do. And in reality what do you expect them to do? Let's look at this another way. Let's say you and I go to a clothing store, and I buy each of us a suit, then you pay me for your suit. But I later take your suit back and use the store credit for myself. Would you then go back to the store and expect them to deal with that? No. This is no different.

This is a matter between you and your friend for the money you paid, and you may have to consider small claims court to recover that money.
