Had a similar experience, but better ending
I had a similar experience due to mechanical issues with the aircraft. Ending up missing a face-to-face appointment with Vice-President Biden-- despite a 36 hour arrival lead time. Fortunately they refunded my money and sent VP Biden's staff an apologetic letter on my behalf. Nevertheless, out-of-pocket expenses weren't reimbursed until I spoke to a senior manager.
