according to the local Dallas News and many other media outlets, American was not given much notice about the new inspection policy, they were not in violation of any safety issues. The FAA changed the inspection policy on the wiring and the bundling requirements, probably to cover the FAA's mess up with Southwest inspections. I travel a lot on business and feel a lot safer on an airline that choses to inspect their aircraft(American, Delta, Alaska) then those who put off inspections and fly aircraft with cracks in them(Southwest.....a cracked fuseluge on a 737 caused part of the roof to come off an Aloha plane in the 1980's, though one flight attendant was sucked out and killed luckily everyone else survivied).
