traveller61.........it was mentioned before and I certainly don't know if this happened but it does alot....if after people have reserved seats and then the airline does an aircraft swap with another aircraft that has a different seating configuration, that would easily explain why it happened and why it can't be changed back to the original seating.
For example.....if you had seats 15ab, and 16abc for your party of 5 and then on the new aircraft 16abc don't exist due to a bulkhead or the numbering of seats or if it happens to be an exit row or seats for sale, you won't get them back. The computer then looks for the same types of seats you had. If unavailable, it may or may not seat you any any open seat, it depends on how the program is set up.
Again, I'm not saying 100% this happened but it is one explanation.
