Actually Margaret, the good news is, you are entitled to compensation under EU 261. This will pay for your accommodation, phone calls, costs of meals and a monetary sum of compensation (in this case €600). Each passenger in your group is entitled to this, as your journey began in the EU.

Write to AA and tell them you are claiming your rights under this ruling. You should have little difficulty as the situation here is pretty clear cut.
As an aside, your complaint is hard to read due to a lack of punctuation.... a comma or a full stop goes a long way!!
