Default Missed flight - Lose all value on ticket

wondering how american will remain used by people when they will ignore opportunities to remain competitive.

Today, I missed a flight and was not able to call to notify American. Because of this, the ticket was closed and all value removed.

Even after talking with Customer Service about getting half credit, they said that would not be possible plus they wanted a $150 service fee.

Buy new ticket on Expedia - 400.
Buy through American - 550.

Buy from Southwest or Continental - $300.

HMM... I'm donating my American miles to my church. Done with them.
