JFK to MCO Cancellations/Late - Twice
So my fiance and I were scheduled to take the 7:45 out of JFK to MCO (Orlando) on March 10th. We get to the airport at 4 to relax and get some dinner. We see a 2 hour delay. Okay no biggie, its raining we kinda expected that. We'll just make the best of it. We get settled in and through security and see now its 3 hours behind. Ugh... ohh well what can we do. We try and make the best of it and joke around.
Well all night every hour they kept delaying it again and again. At one point it was now 2am and we were delayed till 3 am... then around 2:30am they finally told us the flight had been cancelled.
Whats odd is that there was a 9:30pm or so flight going to Orlando, that actually took off and landed before we even got the cancellation, just delays. There were a bunch of flights to West Palm Beach and other parts of Florida... yet we kept getting delayed and eventually cancelled.
So now its 2:30 am we have to go get our baggage and get on line at 3am to get new tickets. Well the line was MASSIVE, as there was a flight to PR that got cancelled as well. So i called Jet Blue (smarter idea) and they put me on a 5:20pm flight out of JFK today (March 11th). So we finally got home around 6am and went to bed, up again in 6 hours and headed back to JFK. We checked before we left, everythings on time and we had beautiful weather today.
So we get there and for some reason I can't use the machine, i have to go to full service. While im in line i check the status and see our flight is CANCELLED. Okay not good. We get to the counter, sure enough our flights been cancelled. The next flight out is at 9:20 that night (its 3pm now)... i dont wanna wait 6 hours so they say we can go to Dulles airport and change there to go to Orlando, okay that'll work. We'll get in around 8ish, i can work with that. Well as im being booked, im checking the status in dulles, well the planes there are being delayed also... same trend we saw today and yesterday on all their flights out in the afternoon (all morning flights were ON TIME though)... well i tell them i cant risk being stranded in dulles and to just put us on the 9:20 flight... well by that time (about 10 minutes since he first offered it to us) all the seats on that flight, BOOKED. So now we're screwed. There are no more flights out till tomorrow... so we just cancelled it all. Had to cancel our entire vacation.
That meant calling BOTH rental car companies (because hertz cancelled me since we never made it there last night and i switched to alamo) and calling the hotel, AGAIN, to cancel the reservation (after just spending an hour re-doing mny reservation to later days)... our tickets for disney/universal can't be used till our next trip and i won't get to see my family now.
We never got a reason from jet blue exactly. Last night they said they needed a crew member from an incoming flight that was circling. Then they said they needed crew from another plane. Then they cancelled it and said FAA rules said they can't work too long so they didnt actually have a crew. Today we had no reasons what so ever.
All their flights to MCO were delayed, even at LGA and EWR. But no other airlines were delayed. We tried to get on a delta flight but they dont have as many flights as jet blue and were fully booked til tomorrow, even at LGA.
Going out of Islip would have cost us $1200 round trip, that was outta the question (via southwest)..
So we got screwed.
Anybody know jet blues official policy? I know if they have delays over 6 hours, they give you credit on future flights for your entire round trip. If they cancel its $50. Well first we had over a 6 hour delay THEN they cancelled, so which one do WE fall under. Are they cancelling to AVOID the full flight credits or do we get both? As for today, im assuming we get that $50 credit for each person because it was just plane out CANCELED right away.
So whats everybody think? Anybody else have this issue yesterday/today.
I've flown jet blue about 4 times before, never had a problem. Ive actually only been delayed once in my life in Atlanta for a few hours, but nothing ever like this where i just CANNOT get out of an airport two days in a row.
It cost me a lot in back/forth expenses. Train tickets, airtran tickets, etc...
I also lost vacation time because im ON vacation now from work, but have no where to go.
