The airlines are in control of the "records"
The big problems is that airlines are in control of the "records" and when something goes wrong then the records are manipulated. I called LH before the day of departure and explained to them that my wife would not be able to fly. LH CS told me to "hold on to that ticket and rebook it at a later point in time for $ 250,-" Later it was "our system is not showing that you called before the date of departure" I printed out my own phone records showing not only the exact date and time of my call but also the length in minutes and seconds. I submitted it to LH but never received a response. Either they deleted the information about my phone call or they are just making that up that I never called. LH would not be the first company to take advantage of this situation, where customers call the company and don't have anything in their hands to prove what was explained or what was entered into the system.
