They do wear their required IDs. They are usually secured to prevent them from falling off during service (big TSA hassles) as well as prevent passengers from getting their last names. There have been cases of stalking after a crew gets to their overnight hotel. It is NOT a mechanism to create anonymity to fuel their hatred of you.
