I had the same problem Jim Erickson had. United was all too willing to give me 400.00 in vouchers after my wife and I sacrificed our seats for 2 families to travel, while we waited several hours for another flight. That's the last time I'll ever do that! When I went to redeem my vouchers, I selected a r/t flight off of the UNITED site which was operated by US Airways, and they told me that I couldn't use the vouchers for that. Mind you, the r/t flight using USAIR was 300.00. Similar flights via United/United Express was over 600.00. I could have bought a cheaper flight w/o the vouchers right from USAIR! They were unbending. They even went on to say that the voucher says that right on it, and I told him that passengers who get bumped don't even get the vouchers until after their flight (they were bumped from) has left! So now they're stuck... It's a scam, and I would warn anyone thinking about getting voluntarily bumped off of a United Flight to THINK TWICE because there are hidden restrictions they conveniently fail to tell you about when you try to redeem the vouchers. Definitely not worth the inconvenience. And here I was thinking I was doing them a favor! Nice guys do finish LAST! Certainly a SCAM by United, for sure!
