I'm not surprised this happened. I traveled to Miami and a pair of sunglasses were stolen from my bag. I contacted TSA first, who confirmed box containing the sunglasses were in the bag. They checked their scans and they did not open the bag. The box was sandwiched between clothes and taped. I contacted American Airlines, was given the run around and eventually told that it was not a "covered" item. I was totally apalled. I called to speak with them regarding their decision... even sent a reply to their email, I was ignored. No response yet and I don't expect one. My expectations for them are below 0. I would like to thank American Airlines for charging me to "check" my bags.
