I'm thinking what the FA had in mind, and presented it badly, was just tidying up a bit before leaving the plane. Like at a movie theater, throw your drink cups and popcorn bucket in the trash on the way out, instead of leaving a huge mess.
Me, I do it without being asked. I was raised with respect, and not self entitlement.
