AA are under an obligation to get you to CLT. Did you pre-empt their arrangements and instead make alternative arrangements?
Did you ask them to re-book you or did you just book yourself.
AA would struggle to argue that a flight from Dallas to Charlotte, which ends at Birmingham, AL following an emergency landing was "completed".
