Lost Items from gate checked bag
My daughter recently visited me and on her flight back on the second leg of her flights her carry on bag was gone thru and items were stolen. In NJ as she got on the plane she was told that there was no room in the overhead for her carryon (which was a combination purse/laptop/valuables bag) and that it would have to be put under the plane and that she would get it back at the end of the flight. She told the stewardess that there were valuables in the bag and was told it would be secure and that she had nothing to worry about - ALL LIES. Due to this she was unable to use her laptop during the flight nor even get any gum for the descent. When she arrived at her destination in NH she discovered that her bag had been gone thru and items taken. When she immediately contacted the United employees she was directed away from the other passengers and informed that it was "her fault" as she did not take her valuables out of her bag before it was put under the plane. Isn't a carryon where you are to put your valuables? She even informed the person who took her bag this and was told it would be secure - LIES - she was told she should have taken everything valuable and put it in her lap - this would have consisted of her whole bag which of course would not have fit on her lap thus the bag was put under.
My daughter was treated like it was her fault that a United Employee had stolen from her and was even told that everyone employs theives. Wow a great comment coming from a company that holds your life in their hands every time you fly with them. My daughter has reported this to United, the police in both NH and NJ and the really strange part is that United employees never mentioned that she should report it to anyone they just told her there was nothing anyone could do. The police departments on the other hand told her she should have been told to report it to police.
I know my daughter will never fly United again and I will never fly with them either. I image after others find out what happened they also will be hesitant to fly with an airline who thinks it is ok to hire theives (per their own words).
Thank you for listening.
