can't reserve a seat six months out
I'm leading a travel group - 16 of us. We all booked out of Houston to Italy a couple of days ago on a flight in May. AA came back a day later and said that HOU-JFK / JFK-HOU flight was going to be canceled and re-routed us through Chicago to JFK and then returning JFK to Miami to Houston. Not what we wanted. So we call them back and are re-booking through Dallas to JFK. It's all OK, except the JFK - DFW leg that we want - we can book seats but we can't get seat assignments. We have to take whatever they decide to give us at the airport! I don't see us finding a computer in Rome to book 24 hours in advance - so we get whatever is left over an hour before the flight. Really? An international ticket usually gets at least enough respect to choose a seat.
