You're absolutely right, here. They have outsourced their "customer service" to the lowest bidder more than any other airline. The employees have no incentive to provide any sort of service. They couldn't care less whether the customer has a positive or negative experience. Avoid UA whenever possible or you will find yourself in a similar situation over and over again.
