So sorry about your difficulty but please do not get your basis for complaint wrong. It may well be that the American airlines flight is where you got your food poisoning but American and BA are NOT owned by the same people. They are most definitely two different companies. The only thing that they have in common is that they cooperate with each other and they have a code share agreement which means that they can sell tickets on each others flights, which they do mainly for everyones convenience when making flight connections. it does not signify that they have the same owners.
Good luck with your course of action against American airlines and not BA. I fear that you will waste a lot of time trying to get compensation out of BA.
