When you book through an agency -either a regular travel agent or an online agent, the agency is the one responsible for notifying you of any changes, not the airline. Something that most people don't know is that the agencies do not normally send you contact info to the airline. When the airline agents look at the phone number in your reservation, it is the number of the agency. So the airline is not even able to contact the passenger.
Also, this is why you should contact the airline at least 24 hours ahead to reconfirm your reservations. You made this reservation 9 months in advance. Did you never think to double check?
