Once I was at a hotel in Seattle and I had to confirm my flight. We were about to print the boarding pass when we realized there was no printer. so we just pressed confirmed and we wrote down the confirmation number. Next day at the Seattle airport we checked in at the Southwest Airlines curbside counter. We were able to do this without a boarding pass. All you have to do is tell them your destination, give them your confirmation number, show them your ID, check your bags and before you know it you'll be on your flight to your destination. From this i arrived home in Chicago.
By the way, you complain about Chicago Midway. Mostly during the holiday season it's crowded, but hey you should see Chicago O'Hare airport. It has delayed and cancelled flights all the time. One time i was flying to St. Louis on United and the flight got delayed by 5 hours.
