Thumbs down Cancellation fees

Hello,

I bought a ticket from Almaty to Acnhorage for my sister. A few days ago I received an email that flight was cancelled and there was a mesage stating either I could acept the changes or request a refund. I requested refund thinking it will be a full refund. Also there was no message during the cancellation process that Qatar Airways will apply cancellation fees to that. Whn I finished the refund process I received a notice that refund amount will be calculated and I will get that information when everything processed. THen a few days later I received and email stating that cancellation fee was withheld.

My complaint is why I should pay the cancellation fees for the flight that was cancelled by airline? Secondly why was there no message in the system stating that I will be paying for cancellation fees before I proceeded with refund request process?

I contacted Qatar Airways on the phone and created a tciket, but didn't get anywhere. People on the phone told me if I provide a proof that there was no information on cancellation fees during the refund request process they would refund me cancellation fees. But I had no way to provide that proof.

Nobody responded to the ticket that I created on airline website.
