I agree with you. But did you use your travel agent or the website to book the ticket? I have seen many cases where the passenger was failed to receive notice of schedule changes because the only reference available is the travel agency. That makes the travel agency responsible. But still I agree with you that an email or even a phone call should be made for all cancellations.
