Uh huh. Unfortunately, that logic defied the realities of the industry. If anyone traveling on a Wanna Get Away Fare (which carries restrictions, including requiring an upgrade to the applicable fare for same-day standby travel) could simply show up at the airport and standby for an earlier flight (or later, as the case might be), then what incentive would there be for Customers to buy the fully refundable, fully flexible Anytime or Business Select Fares which permit last-minute changes and standby travel? Southwest is only able to offer discounted fares when they can count on a Customers' reservation being "firm," which is why discounted fares usually carry restrictions applicable to Customers whose plans permit them to have a firm travel schedule and why the full fare does not.
