Default What about a baby seat?

I've read of horror stories of people not being allowed to bring-on automobile-type baby seats (maybe they didn't want to pay for the extra seat?) even when the seats were labeled "FAA approved." But anyway, why wasn't a baby seat an option in this situation? Also, if the flight you were taking was full, and you weren't in first class, that might be one reason why the airline balked at the crib. To my understanding, the airline, in theory, is supposed to, at least, allow you to bring on a baby seat if you pay a fare for the seat that the baby seat will occupy.

Did the child have a medical condition that necessitated the use of a crib? Were you trying to have your child travel as a "lap child?" That is, traveling without payment of a fare?
