Default reserved seat not honored

I am very specific about my seat, therefore I pay for first class and get my seat assigned many weeks ahead to be sure I get the seat I prefer. Delta has several times switched my seat and can offer no reason. I have my reasons for the seat I want, but they do not have a reason for changing it. Same equipment but not the same seat.
The gate agent has always tried to help by asking frequent travelers if they would trade seats, but the agent apparently has no control over seating once the boarding pass has been printed.
Delta customer service is a brick wall.

You rent A seat. You don't rent a specific seat. Sure, it would be nice to decide that each time you will get seat such and such. Bottom line, if the airline wanted to change your seat 85 times before your flight, they could. It's not customer friendly, of course, I'm just saying if they want to, they could. You will still get a seat in the class you paid for.

Default assigned seats

if the airline (Delta) is going to shuffle the seats around, I wonder why they offer seat selection when you but the ticket - seems a bit pointless. I reserve early because of wanting a specific seat. I wonder if the 'preferred' seats also get reassigned. I agree, the practice is certainly not customer friendly. Do all airlines, other than Delta, do this?
