A few weeks ago the second leg of my flight (BUE - IGR with LAN , a 90 minute flight) was cancelled due to ashes from a volcano for which the airline is not at fault. I travelled on my own from BUE to MVD, and returned home (MVD - SCL) on the same airline. They refused to reimburse me for the unused part of my trip. The two unused flights are equivalent - to about 3 hours on the air. Whereas the extra flying time from my return airport (MVD) vs. returning from BUE, is about 15 minutes. My argument is that in order to calculate if a refund was due, the calculation method should have been : half of the cost (RT) from SCL to BUE and a half of the cost (RT) MVD to SCL. and subtratcted it from the total paid,retrun rtime in total to about cancelled. Lets bear in mind I only took two (out of 4 flights) all of simmilar duration. LAN just took advantage of a natural disaster situation. AVOID LAN.

Did you mention you would pay for the flights to the airline in advance?
Or just did and and the called them?
