Unhappy Toxic fragrances in cabin

I have "Multiple Chemical Sensitivity". Fragrances are toxic to all of us ... I am one who quickly gets poisoning symptoms from them. Google "fragrances + toxins" and you will see how toxic and carcinogenic they are to all of us. Fabric softener is among the worst. Google it and you will see for yourself.

All of us will be healthier when the airlines become fragrance free.

Then stay home, drive or buy your own airplane.

I did google it and I did learn something.

"MCS is a disputed diagnosis and is controversially not recognized as an organic, chemical-caused illness by the American Medical Association and some other US based organisations. Blinded clinical trials have shown MCS patients react as often and as strongly to placebos, including clean air, as they do to the chemicals they say harm them. This has led some in the healthcare profession to believe MCS symptoms are due to odor hypersensitivity or are mainly psychological"

We are not here to Judge (no pun intended, sorry, I had to). As someone who suffers from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, I can understand why you would prefer to be on a fragrance-free flight. However, all other passengers want and deserve the freedom of wearing whatever fragrances they want—especially having the freedom to use fabric softener at home. I’m sure you feel frustrated because no one understands. But think of this from my neutral perspective—you’re telling me that I shouldn’t be allowed to use fabric softener at home. I surely wouldn’t want to take away your freedom of being allowed to eat, wear a watch, or any color shoe you want on an airplane. Why should I lose freedom because you have a condition called MCS?

If this is an important, you should consider educating the flying public about this topic. Engage in training to become recognized as a public health expert and get the message out. If a fragrance-free flight is the right decision, you should empower your fellow passengers and airlines with the knowledge for them to make the right decision. I'd be interested to hear more.

"We"??? Do you have a turd in your pocket? I am certainly here to judge. I picked that name for a reason.

This poster is off their rocker. This is an unrecognized condition that is most likely a mental defect and that is not my layman's opinion. Don't coddle people and kowtow to the few and inconvenience the many. PC'ism is getting out of control.

How about some of mine? Public transport is just that - public, meaning you must travel with the great unwashed. If that risks your life, or your sensibilities (as the case may be...) don't do it.

If I had a kid with a severe nut allergy, I'd probably avoid air travel, for example.

OP: The folks replying in this forum are replying with sound ethics—do what is best for the most amount of people. The opinions expressed are consistent with the general flying public. You are not providing any information on how this ban would positively impact the general population and make it a fair ethical argument.

Like our Airline Sympathizer said, if I had a kid with a nut allergy, I’d be driving to our destination because that would be unfair to my fellow passengers. I think you deserve a fair chance, so please enlighten us if there are some good reasons on how this would benefit the general flying public.

I am struggling with a profound and difficult mental illness, and I am finding it hard to cope. Is there a support group for people who find themselves agreeing with the Judge, despite years of conflict?
