My daughter, on her first trip home from college, was unaware that airline luggage is routinely pilfered by airline employees. She naively packed her laptop in her luggage and checked it on a Delta flight from La Guardia to Atlanta on Sep 20, 2013. The laptop was stolen somewhere enroute.
Delta's response to our claim was polite, but in no way could they be held responsible for electronic items stolen from luggage checked in their system. Very expensive lesson for our daughter about trusting airlines with anything valuable. |

Sadly, the airlines subcontract or employ large numbers of thieves. They know this, but resolutely refuse to do anything about it. Call the police and report the theft. One of the reasons this is able to be ignored is because the crimes are not reported by the airlines or customers. The airlines shoud be under an obligation to report every alleged theft reported to them. Perhaps then someone would take this grand scale theft a bit more seriously.
