Emergency Row Passenger Didn't Speak English
On a flight today from DFW to ONT, while boarding, a flight attendant with a somewhat heavy accent, asked a boarding passenger if he was aware he was assigned an Emergency Exit seat. She had to say it three times to him and it was quite clear he did not understand her. She asked if he was willing and able to assist in an emergency, he replied "yes, my seat". She did nothing! Even when the speech on the plane was given, I assume that the same pass over was again committed as the man in the red t-shirt remained seated there.
I believe it is a FAA rule that anyone seated in an Emergency Exit row must understand English. As an untrained person, I could tell this passenger did not. I do intend to report this to the FAA as well as the DOT, or equivalent.
I've seen the same thing on SWA all because they did not want to insult a disabled veteran. While I understand the difficulty of the situation, these, the flight attendants, are who we depend on for the safety of the flight. They need to make the right decisions, based on rules, not on anything else!
