Where are my tier points?
The OneWorld alliance with AA/US is a hot mess. I am a BA silver members and recently flew first class from Cancun to Philadelphia on a US Airways flight. Once back I saw that I was only credited 40 tier points as opposed to the 60 tier points that the avios calculator shows I should have earned. Now, I really don't care about any bonus avios, just the tier points cause I am trying to stay in the silver realm after my collection period ends, so yeah 20 tier points makes a big difference. I called BA to ask about this and explained this. It took 20 minutes for them to understand that US Airways only has two classes of travel, and they are sold as coach and first. And the BA avios calculator also shows the tier point data for first class for US and not for business. Finally and dutifully took my information down and two days later I received an email. The email stated that although I flew first class, it is considered business class. Further BA indicates that the avios calculator was just a guide and not accurate and there was nothing they can do. Uh hello BA, why show a calculator that is inaccurate and point me to it with a note saying literally not to trust it? The email doesn't allow you to respond back to anyone in customer service. This is ambush marketing. I have another flight out in a few weeks time and I booked first class to get tier points to stay in the silver member realm, now I shudder that what the BA avios calculator shows is inaccurate and I should have just saved the money or better still, used my US Airways membership.
