Angry Overbooking flight stranded me at the airport with no proper retaliation.

I had my flight cancelled unexplained in the 11 August 2015 from my itenary Chennai to Denver, at the transit Abu dhabi to New york. I had to stay for one day at the airport with other people like me stranded because of the airlines carelessness with no proper sleep or proper accommodation. I am a woman travelling alone, so being stranded at an alien nation was not easy. We had to sleep at the airport lounge. I was given a redeemable coupon of 300USD, stating that it has to be used by 10th august 2016. I asked the representative who issued this to me, as I won't fly anywhere in this one year can I redeem as cash they said no, but I can use this to book flights for my parents or friends. This happened at the lounge at the abu dhabi airport. Now that I wanted to book a flight for my family member the etihad representative over phone says that I cannot use this voucher to do so. My question is if I am not able to book the ticket can I get the 300USD as cash. Though I get this coupon, since its unusable I just feel that etihad is forcing me to book a flight via them to make more money rather than settling me for the plight I went through . I feel this is no good. I need a cash for this coupon, or be able to transfer to some one whom I want to. I am deeply concerned with this issue and if am not able to book a flight with etihad before august 10th of August I need a proper replacement for the 300USD. I sent them so many emails but nobody responded. The airline is taking the passengers for granted. It's just the wiping of eyes at the moment and now they are purposely backing out. I need an apology from this airlines, I definitely wont recommend this airline to anyone in future. STAY AWAY FROM ETIHAD would be my comment.
