Recently AA had a "Vacation Sale". I purchased a round trip ticket the final day of the sale. The next day, just to see how much I saved, I went back to AA's site to check fares. To my dismay the ticket price had dropped $20.00.
Stated another way, the non-Sale price was cheaper than the Sale price. I've written AA's Customer DISSERVICE several times in an attempt to get a "valid" explanation for the difference or a refund of the $20.00. They have continually danced around the issue with nothing but double talk (okay, BS!!!). |

Airfares change all the time. Believe me I buy plenty of tickets every year. If you "pulled the trigger" on a fare you felt was affordable for the times you wanted to travel then you got a good deal. I believe Orbitz.com has a guarantee but for that to be honored someone has to purchase the exact same itinerary at the lower price for the refund to be honored.

Let's say Target is having a "SALE" on widgets ($100 each). Today is the last day of the "SALE" so I buy one, for $100. Tomorrow I go back to Target, for something else, and walk by the widget rack. Just out of curiosity I look at the “regular” price tag hanging off one of the widgets. (Mind you, there is NO LONGER a "SALE" sign on the rack). To my dismay I find the price has been marked down to $75.
At the very LEAST there is something “morally” wrong with this picture. On the other end of the spectrum there is something illegal—false advertising!!! Albeit different, it's somewhat “akin” to the old “Bate & Switch”. What I would expect, from American Airlines, is they “man-up” and do the “right thing” (refund the difference). That is yet to happen. P.S. Had they not advertised the original fare as a “SALE” I’d have no beef with them—luck of the draw, if you will. |

Please people no more analogies, they don't help any. But in defense of Target (heh now I'm a department store sympathizer) if they did that I don't think they'll give a refund of the difference either. If you buy your ticket, be content with your purchase and start planning around it. but if you want your purchase to feel valid, check that same flight all day long or specifically first thing in the morning, mid afternoon and late evening and see the price difference. The price might be lower, might be higher. But it will help you understand that prices do flucuate throughout the day. I get why your upset, but it's only a 20 dollar difference and i would be more upset if it were 100 or more difference.
