Difficult and tiring connecting proceedures
Last week my husband and I were flying US Air from Charleston SC to Albany New York. We had to connect from Charleston to Washington DC to Albany. This change required us to use 5 flights of stairs and two busses. We were were carrying our carry on luggage (we did not want to pay the baggage fees). First, we had to walk down a flight of stairs to the tarmac then, walk up a flight of stairs to the aircracft then down the aircraft steps to a bus in DC then up a flight of stairs to the terminal and then down a flight of stairs to another bus to another gate in DC. There was a jetway for the aircraft in DC BUT Whan the aircraft pulled up to the gate it took 1/2 hour to get it connected to the jetway. We saw the copilot hanging out of the window to get someone's attention to connect the jetway. Apparently, no one was there to do it. The flight was delayed in deboarding it's passengers and oof course delayed in take off to Albany. This whole thig was exausting and ridiculous. Also US Iar has many gates and many flights but no personnel on the ground in the terminals. The personnel come at the last minute to do the boarding proceedure. had they had staff at the gate the jetway problem would probably have been detedted and solved much sooner. The flight was not cheap either . They do know how to charge.
