Default Strange date on Amex Delta companion ticket

Have been receiving the Delta Platinum Amex companion tickets for some time. Supposed to be issued 8-12 weeks after card renewal. For me that's June so cerificate comes Aug-Sep. This year's arrived with an issue date of 31 Mar! Has to be used by 31 Mar of following year.

Unfortunately I want to travel in Apr. Called Amex and asked why certificate had 31 Mar issue date. Was told ALL certificates have 31 Mar issue date regardless of renewal. I went through a supervisor and same story with minor variation.

Called a day later and was told "No not correct and that a new certificate would be mailed to me with correct issue dates". Received it a week later and --same 31 Mar issue date.

Not sure how to proceed. Anyone else have this problem?

Not sure if it has anything to do with it or not, but I know there are A LOT of changes going on right now with the merger of NW and DL's "skymiles," "medallion," and "perks" programs. It's possible that in order to streamline the different programs, they just made the expiration date for everyone the same. I'm not too familiar with how these ticketing things work so correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you purchase and book the ticket before 31MAR for an APR flight date and be OK?

Technically this is not an airline complaint. The companion certificates, although issued to be used on Delta, are issued by AMEX. Delta has nothing to do with these except for the fact that they are redeemable on Delta and have Delta's logo on them. I have requested to have this thread moved to the "General Discussion" forum.

I have an friend here in Phoenix who has a friend (merely an acquaintance of mine) who works for AMEX Travel. I'll ask him if he knows anything about the Delta AMEX and the companion certificate. I know my parents have had the Delta AMEX for a few years now but have only used the companion certificate once! I'll be visiting them in November...if you want I'll nick theirs and send it to you!

True not an airline complaint, but Delta refers you to Amex ( they can't really help)which has (to me at least) been non responsive. Travel must be completed within one year of issue date so anyone getting their companion certificate after 31 Mar gets less than a year to use.

Just trying to find out if anyone else has had this experience.
