Angry Items stolen from gate chcked luggage

This seems to be a common theme on here.

While flying from Austin to Houston (5/18/11, CO1573) and continuing on to Calgary AB I was told at the gate that my carry-on bag would have to be checked for the flight, when I got on the plane there were other bags the same size as mine and there was still room in the overhead bins for mine. I was however not told that I would not get my carry-on back after the flight, which had always been the norm in any other flight I had taken. Expecting to get my carry-on back I had left my medication and jewelery in it as this is where the airlines recommend you carry such possessions. My jewelery was in a small blue box in the top outside pocket, the box was small as I only took one change of earrings and one necklace. When I arrived in Calgary everything was gone.

If your carry-on did not exeed the max carry-on dimensions for CO, you are clearly entitled to compensation.

You are entitled to compensation for any stolen items. This bag was entirely under the control of Continental. It had already passed Homeland Security. File a full claim, if no joy, go to small claims court.

I do not agree, if the pax has not checked an oversized carry on in and was forced to do so at the gate, the carry on will be treated like regular bagage regardless of the value, and the compensation will be limited.

If the carry on did not exeed the limit and was checked in due to other reasons, i agree there should be a full compensation.
